After recognising the impact of period poverty among women and girls in South India, Ira was inspired to make a difference. As a graduate student at Harvard, she designed and patented the Asan menstrual cup, adding a unique ring to the cup for easy removal. Asan retails globally and for every cup they sell, they donate one for free to a someone who cannot access safe period care.
