Nicolle and Martin Dean, a husband-and-wife team, put their 30 years of footwear design experience into solving a problem they felt the industry had overlooked for too long: women’s performance shoes being designed on men’s foot shapes. Starting with women’s biomechanics, they spent four years creating QLVR (pronounced “clever”), a patented slip-on running shoe with an instant locked-in fit. Inspired by an expanding bird’s wing and a dog ball thrower, the laceless design opens like a shoehorn to step in, then closes securely around the foot. The name came from women’s reactions to the first prototypes: “That’s clever.”
