Gemma founded Sandy Ray in 2023 in memory of her talented artist mother, Sandy. Childhood memories of painting beside her, collecting shells on Brighton beach and playing dress-up with Sandy’s jewellery shaped Gem’s early creative world. When drawing and painting later felt too tied to those memories, making jewellery became a new way to channel her creativity. After training in jewellery design and metalsmithing, studying stone carving and honing her craft at the jeweller’s bench, Sandy Ray became a coastal jewellery brand shaped by Gem’s love of the ocean, sailing, far-flung adventures and ancient treasures. Each piece is handcrafted using recycled precious metals and ethically sourced gemstones: modern treasure made to be worn forever, wherever you may be.
