Sea Sisters
Co Founder
In 2015 Charlotte set off on a European road trip with her boyfriend Angus and a daily to-do list that usually involved one simple task: figuring out what to eat that day. Travelling through Spain and Portugal on a budget and with only a small campervan to cook in, they fell in love with the high-quality canned fish in beautiful packaging known on the continent as conservas. They would regularly eat it, as the Europeans do, from the can with good bread and a cold beer. When a few years later Charlotte and Angus, now parents to two little girls, found themselves stuck at home in the lockdowns of 2020, Charlotte had the idea of creating a British equivalent of the conservas they had enjoyed on their road trip. Sea Sisters, named after their daughters, was born. The pair set about developing their brand, teaching themselves the art of canning fish from scratch and experimenting with flavours and recipes in their tiny Hackney kitchen (luckily for Charlotte, Angus is a chef!). In 2021 they left London and moved to Bridport in West Dorset, where they opened the UK’s first craft fish cannery and launched their first British Conservas: Cornish Pollack with Garlic and Bay. Today with Angus as head chef, Charlotte heads up the marketing and operational side of the Sea Sisters brand, leading a team of fifteen staff at the cannery. She’s a passionate advocate for the British fishing industry and cares deeply about supporting sustainable and ethical fishing methods and practices. Most of all she’s still mad for delicious canned fish and can be spotted eating a can of Sea Sisters sardines or whelks for lunch most days.
