When Samantha’s new-born daughter was in hospital for three months and had to have open heart surgery at ten weeks old, her only respite was visiting her local park. Nature gave her a moment to breathe and to find her calm among an incredibly challenging time. After seeing a scientific study that said looking at real flowers (even an image of one) can reduce stress, anxiety and trauma, Samantha realised how important nature was. Often the places that could benefit from this the most, like intensive care units, don't have access to flowers at all. Knowing that she needed to create a way to bring flowers with you wherever you go, Samantha gathered real flower images, digitised them and made into bold designs on pure silk scarves, stationery and homeware. Baines London was born and has since launched their first charity scarf which raises money for Tiny Tickers, a charity supporting families of children with congenital heart disease.
